People and PlacesYou are in: Humber > Features > People and Places > Fully-booked ![]() Fully-bookedPaul Nivek A local author on publishing his first novel. The idea for the book came about on a family holiday to Kos in 2003. A visit to some Roman ruins in Kos Town sewed the seed of an idea, and the story was actually written in full in my head in the two hours we were there. On my return home, I began writing, but the finished manuscript wasn't completed until the following year's holiday. ![]() Paul Nivek In late 2006, I approached several literary agents hoping that one of them would like my idea, but to no avail. Undeterred, a local writer who came to my first book signing in 2005, mentioned which publisher she had approached. I did likewise, sending the whole manuscript to Book Guild Publishing of Brighton in February 2007, who kindly agreed to take my book on board and publish it. The whole process of having a book published is time consuming; checking and re-checking everything from typescript to jacket design. More often than not, on being accepted by a publisher, there is a financial outlay to be made by the author to cover publishing costs etc. but royalties received from book sales once the book is on general release usually make the initial outlay worthwhile. I would recommend anyone who thinks they have a story in them to get the idea down on paper and see what happens from there. For some it may be the start of something wonderful. I did just that and the result is One Step Beyond, a time travel crime adventure for teenagers and adults to enjoy. last updated: 04/02/2008 at 11:50 SEE ALSOYou are in: Humber > Features > People and Places > Fully-booked |
