Model of the SS Bellasco

Mystery model under the hammer

A model of a Hull ship is up for auction in New York.

The six-foot long replica of the SS Bellasco is on sale at Christies in New York and is expected to fetch in the region of £30,000.

There is a mystery about the fate of the real ship. The SS Bellasco was built in Southampton in 1921 for the Hull based Bell Line. The records are incomplete and it is not know what happened to the ship after its construction.

It is believed the model was made for the head of the shipping company Sir James Bell.
