Well if your family is from the Cleethorpes area you could well be related to one of the twenty men memorialised on a pair of plaques that have recently had a revamp. At a recent heritage weekend at St Andrews Methodist church, one of the parishioners mentioned plaques that had been on display in the church at its previous site. The plaques had actually been in storage for decades and were in a rather sad state, however a group of the church members led by Ann and Charlie Reading decided to take the bull by horns and clean the plaques up. With a bit of help from the War Trust the pieces of brass are now bright, shiny and on display at the church, doing the men they are dedicated to proud. On November 4th the church is having a rededication ceremony for the plaque and there is the hope that some relatives of the men will be present. If you think you may be related to any of the men listed below, give us a call at the BBC on 01482 32 32 32 and we will put you in touch with Ann and Charlie. The men listed on the plaques are as follows JW Bancroft : L/Cpl 10th Btn Lincolnshire Regiment (Chums) last updated: 25/10/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Humber > Community > Open Centre > Cleethorpes memorial plaques get much needed make-over |
