A new website is asking people to nominate the things which best represent Englishness.


The bridge joins other nominations such as red phone boxes, bowler hats and the stiff upper lip.


Hull born actress Maureen Lipman who cast her vote for the bridge says she likes it “bleakness and its solitary splendour”.

But what other local treasures deserve icon status?
