My older sister and myself were not evacuated during WW2 and since my father was serving in the Army and my mother had to work, we spent time with my grandparents in Greenford, Middlesex
for some of the time during the war.
I do remember bits and pieces during the war, and the blackouts and the sounds of the sirens and having to get under the table at my grandmothers house. The strongest memory was during the time we were living in Hammersmith and the sirens went off and my mother grabbed me and my older sister by the hand, running down the street to the air raid shelter and screaming, trying to let people know they had to get out of the houses.
When the bombing was over and we came out there was not a house left on that street and it was a terrible site so the sirens always made me and my sister nervous after that experience. We had many more memories of the bombings and sleeping on the platform in the underground station, after we lost our house, but some of the stories I had forgotten until my older sister would remind me what we did during that terrible time of bombing since we spent the entire war in London.
