I was bourn 10 years after the war ended. As I grew up in Wembley I could still see bomb sites around, air raid shelters in the grounds of all the schools and large black water tanks with white crosses on them still in the streets.
My dad served in the AFPU (Army Film & Photographic Unit) through the war and had a huge collection of photographs which he shered with my brother and myslef, he was working as a film camerman for the BBC which sent him all over the world covering events which were a dirct result of the WW2, amoung other things.
At 13 I joined the Army Cadet Force and as a young cadet I was shown how to use the wepones of WW2 and the taticts lernt during that conflict, I went on to the TA for 4 years.
I have made Militery History a hobby.
