My name is Bill Durham, age 77,and lived at Sevenoaks, Kent, for the duration of the war. Since a small child radio fascinated me, and was to become my career from the age of 14 until retirement in 1988. 1945 found me riding my first motorised vehicle, then called an autocycle, and introduced by my father with a view to giving me an interest to 'keep me on the straight and narrow'during my youthful years.
I have since understood what he meant. Dad was an ambulance driver and dispatch rider in WW1 and was, I suppose, a natural engineer. Never having a great deal of money to spare, his ability to repair things with what was to hand was considerable. Glad to say that my brother and I seem to be 'chips off the old block' and continue to ride classic motorcycles in our '70's.
