This contribution is submitted on behalf and with the consent of my mum, Margaret, my aunt and Joy, Stuart and Linda, the children of my late uncle. The family home was in Birmingham and the sisters have many happy recollections of their war service, being young and single, despite the difficulties faced. My uncle, however, had family responsibilities, being married with a young daughter.

Supplemental to these recollections is the story of my father, the late Jim Donnan, told by my husband and referenced in the story related here.
