I was born in 1922 and grew up from then until WWII in Driffield Road, Bow, E.3. attending Chisenhale Road School and later winning a free scholarship to Parmiters Foundation Grammar School then located in Approach Road. I remember my childhood in Driffield with great affectation and still some of our neighbours, the Starkeys, the Lings, the Erringtons, the Greens, the Cornwells. I emigrated to Western Canada in 1957, had a successful business career, raised my family there and my grandchildren have requested me to write my memories of the London Blitz.
I am in my 22nd. year of retirement and, being partially handicapped have become a computer "nut" as a hobby. It keeps me in constant touch with relatives still in the UK - particularly my nephew Roy who still lives in the area ("up" the Roman Road a bit).
Either through business opportunities or family get-togethers I revisited the UK regularly from 1962 until retiring in 1984 and I last visited the UK (and took a remembrance trip to Driffield and around Victoria Park) in 1996.How things have changed in the area - but some things never change.
