I was born in June of 1942 in Wimbledon, London and as a result of the war lived in many different places in the south of England before residing in Worthing until 1950.

My father,Robert E. Brett was a Lieutenant Commander in the RNR and like many of his generation spoke very little about his wartime exploits. He completed his naval service in 1946 and returned to the Merchant Navy with the rank of Senior Master of the Standard Vacuum tanker fleet. When the opportunity presented itself, our family immigrated to Australia in 1950 and with subsequent company promotions we returned to the UK in 1955 and in 1959 came to the USA.

I have lived most of my adult life in the USA and enjoyed a long career in the teaching profession. Through all the years I have maintained an interest in naval history and in particular, researching the history of HMS Seaham, the Bangor class minesweeper my father commanded. Thus, for posterity, I have included a brief history of the ship and my father's contribution to the war effort.
