I came from Guiyang, also, Kweiyang, China. There was a monument for an English female doctor Guy Courtney, who died of test of immune shot experiment during the period of Anti-Japanese War in China, a part of World War II. She was a member of British Red Cross, and worked with other doctors from all part of world red cross organizations together with Chinese during the war time.
In October of 1938, China Red Cross Caring Service moved to Guiyang, Guizhou Province from Changsha, Qiyang of Hunan Province. The headquarter was based in Tuyun Gate, Guiyang. At that time an international medical service team from 9 different countries, UK, US, Poland, Austria, Czech, etc volunteering went to Tuyun Gate, took part in the service of China Red Cross Caring Service. They often went to different battlefields to help Chinese soldiers. They devoted much for Chinese victory of World War II.
British doctor Guy Courtney, (GAO TIANYI, Chinese name) gave her life to China.
In 1943, Japanese Army used germ weapons in Guangxi Province, neighbouring Guizhou Province. In an experiment to produce immunity shot, Ms Guy Courtney gave her body to test the immune shot. Unfortunately died of toxicosis. She was buried in the mountain of Tuyun Gate, Guiyang, Guizhou Province.
After the established of the People's Republic of China in 1949,Chinese people and government erected a monument of International Medical Aid and the tomb of British Doctor Guy Courtney. There is a peace pigeon sculpture behind the tombstone of Doctor Guy Courtney, it represents that the human nature need peace, need friendship, reminds people around world destroy war. Unfortunately, I can't get the exact date of death of Doctor Guy Courtney right now. But I will try later to consult with my friends in Guiyang.
Chinese people are thanking the British people who devoted their lives for the human being justice.
We won the war together
