During airaids 1939/45 in Shefield (Firth Park area)when I was 2/4 years old my mother and many other parents would take thier children to an area called Shefield Lane Top, an area of high elevation overlooking Shefield, every night around 6pm we would go to that area complete with picnick hampers to watch OUR OWN CITY being bombed. It was a spectacular event every night during the Blitz over Sheffield. And as far as I can remember we used to exclaim with great zest just as people do nowdays on Bonfire night evvery time a bomb exploded.looking back what a warped entertainment specticle .BUT WE HAD NO TELEVISIONS THEM DAYS.that was our entertainment.FUNNY PEOPLE WE WERE IN THEM DAYS???????????
