My mother and father lived in a house in South London. Whilst my father was at work during the war their house was badly damaged by a bomb, My father came home and was not sure whether my mother had been inside the house. Fortunately she was not. However he had a piece of liver which he had been saving for his dinner and he was pleased to recover it from the the debris in the garden. Some of their furniture was destroyed and damaged. My father repaired the dining room suite and for all their lives they kept the dining room suite. The handle of the side board was repaired and remained in our house. I still have the furniture in store and cannot somehow bring myself to get rid of it.
