At the beginning of the war I and my brothers were evacuated to knott end near fleetwood.we then moved to yealand conyers.
I was sent into hospital at poulton le fylde, and onwards to ladywell sanatorium.
Whilst i was moving around my parents brought home my brothers and finally I went home.My father was a special constable ,and one night we heard a terrific bang and my father came into the shelter telling us not to worry ,as an oil bomb had landed on a nearby house and shrapnel had gone through our window into a cupboard where it struck a pack of matches and set our house on fire.the fire was intense because of the oilwhich was on the shrapnel.
firemen put out the fire, and my mother tried to clean up the mess.luckily no one was injured in the blast.
A couple of nights later my father came in our house with blood pouring down his face ,and with a piece of shrapnel through his steel helmet.
This was probably from an anti aicraft shell fired from a battery nearby.
It was a very scary time .
I hope this is of some interest,Reg Rostock.
