My father was an A.R.P. warden for Upper Edmonton,London during the second World War.As I was never evacuated my memory of events is reasonably clear, I had reached the age of 6 by the autumn of 1940.One night my father stumbled into our house during a lull,I detected the relief in his voice as he described the sound of ticking coming from a house in the next street. Was it yet another bomb ready to explode? In great trepidation the wardens crept into the hallway and made their way towards the ticking and to their great relief found a grandfather clock.
