My grandfather, Miksa Fenyo, was a very famous Hungarian-Jewish intellectual writer (he and two other prominent Hungarian-Jewish writers established a periodical by the name of "NYUGAT" which means "WEST"; Encyclopedia Brittanica mentions this). In 1934, as an Independent member of The Hungarian Parlament, my grandfather wrote, published and distributed a brief study titled "Hitler", in which he warned his fellow members of parlament, and readers of his periodical "NYUGAT", not to join in an alliance with Germany under Adolf Hitler and his sick and dangerous NAZI party ultra-fascist, anti-Semitic, anti-humanist dictatorship. Unfortunately, too few if any of those in any position of authority, heeded his warning concerning the danger of Hitler and his Third Reich. One must keep in mind that Hitler had only been in power for less than two years! As a result of this and the fact that my grandfather was a prominent Hungarian-Jew, albeit had become an agnostic
Catholic two decades earlier, he was placed second on Hitler's Most Wanted Dead or Alive List of persons wanted by the Gestapo and S.S. in Hungary in the final two years of the war. Miksa Fenyo barely survived in hiding, with the assistance of the Hungarian anti-fascist underground, and most of our (his) family did not survive the concentration camps and other atrocities perpetrated by the NAZIs, the Arrow Cross, and other fascists in Hungary and the region.
Unfortunately, this fact about my grandfather, which can easily be verified, is not known to most Hungarians and, thanks to over 45 years of Stalinism and post-Stalinist Soviet control over Hungary during the Cold War, much of the rest of the world. I would appreciate it if the BBC would investigate these facts, prove them to be true and document this! After all, my grandfather was pretty much alone as someone of direct Jewish heritage in daring to do what he did in 1934!
Best to all the great folk at BBC and the many British and other U.K. heroes (veterans) who fought valiantly, and with a sincere love for all humanity, against the sick and dangerous Axis of Inhumanity (the NAZIs, Fascists, etc.).
