An unexpected ride

I can't remember the exact details as i was told the story a few years ago and since then the lady, my grandmother, in the story has died.

Esme was an ambulance driver for the RAF on an air field. I'm not sure where the base was but I think it was in the South East. One day she, I'm not sure if there was a reason, but she got on board a Lancaster bomber. Before she knew, the plane was tearing down the runway and took off.

Esme was terrified because she thought the plane was going on a bombing mission. Luckily, the plane was just transfering to another airfield.

She told me it was one of the scariest moments in her life.
