During the war my great grandmother, Alice, lived in London. One evening she was cooking her tea, Welsh Rarebit, when the air raid siren sounded. She decided to stay put and have her tea, instead of going to the shelter.A bomb was dropped very close by and her house was destroyed. My great grandmother was rescued from the ruins of her house. My mother remembers her being covered in bruises when she came to live with them soon after. Had my great grandmother decided to go the shelter, she would not have survived, it was completely destroyed and all it's occupants killed. And so she lived because of her determination to have her tea, Welsh Rarebit.
