My father, George, was invalided home from Algiers in 1944 and posted to The Isle of Wight.
He had seen the V1 Flying bombs going harmlessly overhead, and was surprised to get a letter from his wife in which she told him how frightened we all were in London.
He wrote back. saying there was nothing to be afraid of as 'they hadn't got any pilots in them'.
