During the second world War my mother in law was a teenager in Denmark. One of her most enduring memories is of the day the germans arrived in Copenhagen. Her father was an active local comunist and the night before Copehagen was over run the family spent many hours burning all of her farthers comunist literature. They then spent the whole of the time that Denmark was occupied living in fear that their fathers views would be given away and they would all be sent away to a concentration camp.
