When war was declared, Felicia was on her way up from their Holiday in Great Yarmouth on a motorbike and sidecar up the Great North Road. This was the only way up! War was imminent. Arthur, Felicia's husband, brought the newspaper back and it told the story that war was declared.
They needed black cloth to cover up the windows. That same night, the sirens went off. People were letting out the animals. There were horses coming up the road. Everyone was very scared. They didn't let any light show!
They has an Anderson air raid shleter in the back garden. They put benches in and bedding. Three bombs were dropped by an enemy aircraft returning. They dropped the last few on the road. One of them dropped on the road and the other in the back garden and the third one dropped in the Lodge Moor area of Sheffield.
