Most of my primary schooling took place underground.
Long corridors of underground air-raid shelters had benn constructed under the shool playground.
Time spent here having lessons in near darkness and damp and cold conditions were to say the least not looked forward to. The school shelters here at Bonner Hill Kingston became a home as the raids became 48 hrs in duration and were frequent and families joined us who did not have there own shelters.
Although London took the brunt of such raids here was a prime target as the Hawker aircraft factory was nearby
