I was a clippie on the southdown busses through the war. one sunny day the bus was just getting into Eastbourne by the railway when we heard the buzz of the doddlebugs. I was on the back of the bus, when the bomb dropped. My first thought, as the blast caught my trousers was not for my safety, but "Thank god my legs are nice and brown!"
