" I can remember a bomb dropping on the good's yard in Stoke Works...on the railway and I was in the bed asleep...the old man came into the bedroom...some shrapnel off my stomach...made a great big hole in the roof, like a bomb hit it...he(his dad) to lift it off my stomach( the shrapnel)...it didn't injure me like...no injuries.
The bombing lasted a few years...I was born in Stoke Works...years ago there was a row of 56 houses...bungalows and semi-detached houses now...everybody helped everybody, they use to leave their doors open...no crime that was heard of...people use to knock on each door from 1 to 56...you new who was coming before they got there..."
