1940 as a child in Hoxton London I remember
boarding a bus with other children
,then boarding a steam train and seeing green fields for probably the first time
and eventually arriving (although I did not know it) in a village called Colan near Newquay Cornwall
We children were then told to sit, and adults began to stare at us Just like a cattle market .I and another boy were picked out and taken to their house
They were without children of their own
The house had no electric ,gas, running water
toilets. The radio worked by means of 'accumolators?'Water was taken from a well. Lighting was by means of paraffin.
But the couple looked after me for 3 years
through some hard times I have many memories of bombing ,RAF and USAAF BOMBERS and FIGHTERS FLYING OVERHEAD from a neaby airfield St Mawgan and some times they would crash on landing after returning from raids over Germany.
My parents took me back to London 1943 thinking the bombing was over Hitler had other ideas !To be continued.
