My father arrived in Newcastle at the age of 18 to train as a French Resistance pilot. He was passionate about flying but the war was over before he could qualify as a pilot and had to return to France to find work. He told me that he and his French compatriots would go hunting rabbits around Newcastle-upon-Tyne and make lovely French-style rabbit stews which they would share with the British soldiers! The British soldiers loved the food my father used to tell me!
My father kept a soft spot for Britain in his heart until his death.
I am his only child and happens to have married an English man, have 2 British children and have been living in this country for over 25 years! Coincidence?? I don't know...
Catherine Eliane Mira ( married name: Moore).
