I was born in November 1942 in Isleworth, West London. However, my mother's family lived in Edmonton, Nth London and we moved in with my grandparents as my father was serving in the Army.
When I was 6 months old our house was destroyed by a bomb. It fell in between the 4 houses at the corner of the back garden. My mother told me that the bomb blew the contents of the house into the back garden and for as long as I can remember, the back garden had 2 levels.
I was in my cot in the upstairs room; the wardrobe blew down over my cot and saved my life. My grandmother suffered with a permanent lump on her forehead from this incident. No one in the family was killed, but I do think some of the neighbours were. My uncle used to sleep on the sofa in the front room, but I believe he was not on leave from the Air Force on this day; the front room was devasted. God was looking after my family even at that time.
At such a tender age I made the front page of the local newspaper on that occasion. Something I have experienced over the years.
I now live in Winchester, Hampshire having followed my husband's work with the IBA, which at that time was located in Crawley, Nth Winchester. My son is a Jnr Sous Chef with Lainston House and my daughter a nurse with the Stable Close Vet. Surgery both in Winchester.
