During the War my girlfriend was going to get married and asked me if I would like to be her bridesmaid. She was marrying a soldier and intended to wear a white wedding dress. My mother's worry was, she had said she would make my bridesmaid's dress but where was she going to get the coupons to buy the necessary material.
We went to the shops looking for dress material. We found some white nylon - ex parachute nylon, no coupons were needed.
She bought the necessary material for a dress, underskirt, bra, pants etc. and set to making my outfit. She had dyed the material blue.
My outfit looked very nice when it was finished and I wore it on the wedding day.
I had a bouquet of bronze chrysthanemums
and I thought I looked great.
Later an article about a bride appeared in the newspaper. She had worn a nylon wedding dress and when her photo was taken, the her dress was transparent the nylon hadn't shown up. I was in a cold sweat until I got my copy of the wedding photo, but luckily for me my dress photographed O.K.
