Working at Routes Factory in Blythe bridge.
My mum came to live in Stoke-on-Trent at the start of World War 2. Her father was an electrician in Liverpool and was drafted to the Routes Air Craft Factory in Blythe Bridge. My mum was only 17 and was unhappy about leaving Liverpool. However they came to Stoke-on-Trent where she settled down and lived in The Avenue in Basford.
My mum then got a job at Routes in the typing pool where she typed columns and columns of figures. The hours were long and she worked until late at night. She eventually was a supervisor in the typing pool.
My father also worked at Routes in the factory.
They both travelled to work on the train from Etruria to Blythe Bridge. My father met my mum at a dance in Newcastle, but he had seen her en route to work. He knew he wanted to marry her the first night they met!! And of course, he did.
I wonder if anyone can tell me about Routes Factory and the work that went on there and the people who worked there??
