Plymouth 1944, a friend and myself were walking home form school across a local park when the siren sounded. We immediately went to the nearest public shelter, which was crowded, we had a choice of 2. During the raid there was a very loud explosion nearby, but it didn't affect our shelter.

Following the "All Clear" we continued wandering home. When I arrived my mother was very agitated and wanted to know where I had been. I told her and she then said that the other shelter on the opposite side of the park had taken a direct hit and a lot of people had been killed.
