The village covered an area if appprox 16 Sq.Miles. It comprised a village centre and four hamlets. It was equa-distant from Gravesend and Rochester. For Air Raid Warnings we listened out for siren Warnings and All-Clears from the tw0 towns mentioned. Came the day when a siren was allocated to the village, was affixed to the luggage rack of a car, the driver of which on receiving a telephone message, set the siren running and drove a prescribed route around the village. On a number of occasions the mobile siren was sounding the, Warning, while the All-clear could be heard from one or other of the two towns. Further, on the edge of the village a RAF Fighter Station was situated. This meant that aircraft leaving the airfield alerted the villagers to approach of enemy aircraft
