it was 1940 and i was 5 yrs old.iwas on my way to school. my mother and i lay flat on the pavement as a german plane came overhead.we could see the pilot clearly as he was very low.we could see the tracer bullets as he fired his guns at two women who were going up the hill in warstock road about one hundred yards away in front of us. asthe focker wolf roared off towards kings heath the siren went.we ran round the corner to the school.the children were just going into the brick shelter. i don't know whether there has been any government record of this incident or whether the plane was shot down at all. we often watched dog fights between spits and german planes. the spitfire would do a roll if it shot down a german plane.
