Message 1 - Forgotten Lots

Posted on: 06 June 2004 by Dominic

My father served in the British Army Aid Group, set up in free China by British army officer and volunteers (equiv. to TA)from Hong Kong after it fell, to organise rescue and help in the escape of British and other allied POWs in occupied China during the WWII. Sadly, the group was only recognised as civilian body, even though the army armed them at that time, but not treated as part of the British Army despite the work done. My father was on the wanted list of the Japanese, his head worthed a huge sum of money. He was decorated with George medal after the war.

The work of these people seems to have been, first not recognised by the MoD and secondly forgotten by the world.

Anyway, we managed to defeat the Japanese in joint effort and this is, of course, the ultimate objective - achieved with joy but at a high cost.
