My Grandpa, a wing commander and navigator for his crew on the Sunderland was flying over the sea when they were shot down. They were captured by German and sent to the Prisoner of War camp colditz.
My Grandpa also known as "Piglett' with a group of people dug a tunnel called the mole tunnel he was the first person out and escaped unforunately his two best freinds were captured and sent to Colditz where they were for a very long time.
Piglett had luckily taught his two freinds how to build gliders has he had been brought up in New Zealand and there was not much to do there. His two freinds Tried to build the glider but failed. ( This woz mentioned on blue peter. )
You can see my grandad in the film the great escape but he gets shot which doesnt actually happen otherwise I wouldn't be alive today!
