I learnt that my dad's dad used to be in the Navy. He was captured by the Japanese in 1941 and spent the rest of the war in a POW camp for the British. He would never recount tales of when he was there to my father, but now I have read some other's stories I know why. Sadly I never got to meet him because he died 6 weeks before my parent's wedding. But one of the strange things was: He was engaged to his girlfriend and was due to get married, they deiced the wedding cake and kept it until the end of the war, then they used the same wedding cake on their wedding day, they just reiced it, I don't think anyone got food poisioning...
