Those who did not 'get away' became POW's, and this is a story of one whom was captured.
Reginald Glass of Dover, or 'Regie' to his freinds, was part of the 'perimiter', asked to fight 'Tanks'; with 'rifles'!. Eventaually falling into German he was fortunate to become a POW and not executed. Marched across Europe on foot, to Poland, to serve in a POW camp as an 'agricultural' slave. Living on nothing more that potatoes at times!
Eventualy, when the war was won, he had to wait several weeks for the 'British' Wellington Bombers (smaller) to take him home, instead of embarking upon an American B52 (Larger), bomber. Apparently Churchill wanted our boys bought home by British air forces not 'american!
Upon arrival, he was draughted into 'Bomb Disposal' in this case to Brighton Beaches to clear the home beaches before being disbanded.
