Never fired a shot in anger, but I was a soldier from December 1944 'till January '48.

During that period I kept notes written up every few weeks.

I have recently re-typed this 45000 word account, adding a few paragraphs to put into current perspective. Now it's 48000 words.

Trained as an infantryman, then commissioned into the Argylls, I spent some time 'in aid of the civil power' in Cairo, on a troopship in the Med, and finally exhuming casualties in the Desert and Bavaria.

The account is now produced here. The 17 chapters have been fitted 27 3000 word slots. Each can stand on its own.

But, because the web site displays successive sections on top, my account is back to front.

Sorry, but to get the whole story, I must ask you to work your way backwards, right back through all 29 sections, to reach the foreword and chapter 1

A typed copy of this story is also held at the Imperial War Museum.

Hope you enjoy it.
