My Mother Annie Etchells heared the sirens warning of an air raid she put my sister Pauline in her pram and got her belonging together to go to the airraid shelter,opening the front door planes were flying overhead it was frightening should she make a dash for it a warden shouted watch that light but did not offer to help her with the pram even thou he new she had a very young child,after many more tries Annie my mother gave up, taking my sister Pauline up stairs she put her in her double bed and surrounded her with pillows, tuning off the light my Mother opened the blackout curtains all around the sky was blood red with flames from the fires as Manchester burnt she sat on the edge of the bed ready for a long night her husband was out there someware with the ARP she sat and watched nothing else to do the next thing she is waking up, the all clear is sounding she had fell asleep as Manchester burnt
