My mother had two young children during the war and knew what other mothers were going through with husbands away.

She used to listen to the radion which was braodcast from Arnheim. Young USA soldiers and airmen used to send messages to their families. My mother used to take notes of their addresses and send the messages to the USA to give them comfort and to know they were safe.

In november 1944 she had a newspaper article written about her in the brighton Park Life. A G W Kistengher had sent a message to his family. ' I am now a PRISONER OF WAR AND WILL WRITE SOON. lOVE BILL.

This had been the only notification of her son being alive and several other soldiers.

One family were so grateful to her message they became long life friends and wrote regularly to each other
