I was 6 when a V2 Rocket destroyed our street at 7.30 am. I was in our house and i heard a thud. We were very lucky as the row of houses opposite us were completely destroyed. 14 people died. My sister was 2 at the time and was in the frontroom (downstairs) in her cot. She was next to the window and the blast threw her and her cot to the other side of the room. Luckily she was unharmed and fine. As i was only a child, I found the whole experience quite exciting and had fun exploring the ruins of our neighbours houses with our friends. We used to collect silver paper and pieces of the actual rocket.

The rocket had destroyed all our food in the pantry. As it was my birthday the day before the rocket came down, we had stored my birthday cake in a tin. The cake was the only thing edible in our house!
