I was born in 1941 and my mother and I lived in in the suburbs of London at Eastcote while my father was serving in the Royal Navy. RAF Northolt was only a couple of miles away and seems to have been bombed throughout the war.

We had a Morrison shelter in our dining room which we used as a table and I can remember one occasion, which must have been towards the end of the war, hearing the anti-aircraft guns firing. When Mum and I rushed to get into the shelter, I hit my head so hard on the iron frame that I can still remember it today!
