I am 71 years old. I was born in London and used to live in Judd Street, in St. Pancras/Kings Cross area. I can still remember being evacuated to Luton, Beds. with my sister. I can still even remember the address: 8 Stratford Road, Luton, Beds.! We stayed in Luton for about 2 years and then went back to London for 2 reasons. Where we were living in Luton, it was near a ball-bearing works (Skefco, I believe) and also my mother gave birth to my brother. I can also remember going to Aldwych Tube Station at night to sleep, along with hundreds of other people, and wondering if our block of flats was still standing when we got out of the tube station the next morning to go home! As soon as the air raid warning went off, our neighbours across the street would come over to our flat because to them, our block of flats seemed so much safer than their house. Fortunately for everyone, both houses and flats survived as did the respective occupants! I also believe we had Big Bertha (the ack-ack gun) way at the bottom of our street.
