I was not born at the time but whilst my father Walter Ronald Bingham was fighting in the far east my mother Audrey, grandmother Elizabeth and my brother Roger who was then about three were living at my grandmothers home in Hull. When the blitz began my grandmother stubbonly refused to go in the anderson shelter, saying that if Hitler was going to get her he could do it in her own home, so she would sit under the dining room table with all her papers in a small suitcase!! Happily they all survived to tell the tale and my grandmother lived to be niney three.
