My husband, Jack and I went to Eastborne to visit his family one day. Jack was in the Army, and I was a clippie on the Southdown buses. I did the coastal routes.
My father-in-law was the Chief Engineer of the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne, we went to visit him when the hotel was occupied by the airforce. This one particular day the sirens went, and grabbing my hand, Jack pulled me into the lobby of the hotel, where there seemed to be several kitbags on the floor. Now, not wanting to spoil my lovely new pale blue coat - I sat on one of them. Suddenly it moved!.... It was one of the airman - he didn't say a word!
