If the plans go ahead, a quarter of a mile of the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire canal would be restored, up to Aylestone Park. | | Drawing of the plans |
The area around the canal would also be redeveloped - the work would see the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal Trust working closely with Herefordshire Residential Developments. This summer will also see the restoration of the adjacent section of the Canal through Aylestone Park, as part of the Partnership there between Herefordshire Council, the Canal Trust and the local community. Within the new Park the Canal Trust has already constructed an extensive network of footpaths/cycleways, and two viewpoints as well as undertaking significant landscaping works. | "These proposals represent a huge step forward in the restoration of the Canal within Hereford." | | David Penny : Commercial Director of the Canal Trust |
The works at Holmer form an important part of the overall strategy for restoring the Canal within Hereford, which will include the construction of a large new Canal terminus basin. David Penny, Commercial Director of the Canal Trust, said: "These proposals represent a huge step forward in the restoration of the Canal within Hereford. "Not only will the proposals make a huge improvement to the area but they also provide a much improved quality of employment space to replace what already exists on the site, alongside the proposed imaginative waterside residential elements." |
