BBC Radio Solent's Julian Clegg met him during a training trip on the Solent. Anthony Rees used to work in media and advertising in London, but he'd had enough. The 26-year-old fancied a bit of outdoor life and felt he was getting bogged down with living in the capital. Help playing audio/video He'd heard that the super-yacht industry was booming - working with yachts and motor cruisers at glamorous locations around the world. Anthony packed his bags and headed to Cowes. Anthony quit his job in London working in a busy advertising company: ![]() Anthony aims to get into the luxury cruiser market "It was just the 9 to 6.30 regime each day. Deadlines were always there, meetings, you just have this agenda every day and every week." On holiday in Corsica last year Anthony got chatting to crews of super yachts and got a flavour of the lifestyle they led, crewing boats for the rich and famous around the world. "It wasn't a case of me running away from the stress - it was me running towards a dream. It's just something I wanted to do and I felt I was the right age to do it." ![]() Anthony training on the Solent BBC Radio Solent’s breakfast show presenter, Julian Clegg went to meet Anthony at the UK Sailing Academy in Cowes where he’s spending time on the water learning piloting skills, navigation and the ins and outs of the sailing world. 80% of the world’s super yacht fleet are motor cruisers and Anthony hopes he will soon be rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous. Life changeEvery year thousands of people dream about giving up the 9-5 grind and taking on a new career. More than half of us say we'd like to do something different, but few of us actually follow through on our dreams. Over the festive season a quarter of the people in the UK will think about changing jobs. On Monday evenings South Today Julian will join Sally Taylor on South Today. Julian says: "Anthony has made an amazing career change, and if he gets his wish he’ll be waking up every morning doing his dream job." Anthony will be joining Julian on the BBC Radio Solent breakfast show on Tuesday morning from 0630.
