| | "The Woman In Black is a terrific example of theatre production at its best. Simple sets, superb acting, magical effects and a story to die for! "The whole play is carried by two great actors, Paul Webster and Damien Matthews, who take the audience on a two hour journey of scary twists and sinister turns. "The story begins with Arthur Kipps (Webster) a nervous lawyer who asks actor (Matthews) for advice on how to best tell the terrible tale he has carried with him for years and now feels compelled to share. "As the two rehearse the boundaries between fact and fiction merge as the mysterious and creepy tale unfolds. The Woman In Black is a terrific example of theatre production at its best. "With a simple stage set, minimal props and a few perfectly timed bloodcurdling sound effects, praise must be given to the technical team as the tension and fear build to a terrifying conclusion. "The Woman In Black is cleverly written and directed to keep you on the edge of your seat - and does it ever? "I have never seen an audience react like they did at The Everyman. It's quite a remarkable sight to see grown adults jump in their seats and hear a whole audience scream with fear! "The Woman In Black is a truly terrifying and enjoyable theatre experience and one not to be missed. But be warned - it's not for the faint hearted!" | Felicity Garside, age 15 - Email | On January the 27th I went on a school trip to see The Woman In Black. The play starts with a solicitor (Arthur kidd) who has carried a terrible story, full of horrors, with him for the majority of his life. He sees a young actor and asks him to act out his story with him. At first the actor is reluctant but Arthur persuades him to do it. The story starts with the two men, acting out the funeral of Mrs. Drablow, during the funeral a Woman in black is seen. We discover that arthur was sent to sort out the old womans house and documents. As he is standing outside of the house, the sound of a horse and trap appears and you hear a child scream. The play is filled with horrors and is guaranteed to make the audience scream. The play is acted out by only two men and it is very effective. This play is likely to be the scariest play you will ever see in live theatre, it is definatly not to be missed! |
