Matt Damon worries about his swing while Robert Redford frets about the increasingly cynical world that we live in, as revealed by the new DVD release of "The Legend of Bagger Vance".
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Picture There's some mighty pretty cinematography going on here, and with a picture transfer this lush and rich, why, it's just like you're there.
Sound You wouldn't figure a sentimental golf drama starring permanent baby face Damon would offer much in the 5.1 sound mix department. Yet this is one of those DVDs that just immerses you right into the mood of the film with subtle effects like bird twittering, wind, and light rain that just pleasantly surround you. As for the old golf swings, just listen out for the mighty 'swoosh' effects accompanied by a massive 'whump' from the subwoofer. OK, now we're into sad territory but you'll notice it too!
SPECIAL FEATURES
"Insight into the Legend of Bagger Vance" There's no audio commentary on this disc, but there is this little featurette where director Robert Redford talks over an animated gallery of stills. In it he sums up his feelings on what he sees as the increasingly cynical world we live in, and how the film is an uplifting antidote to an information age where dumbing down is apparently prevalent. Whatever you may think of the film, Redford does speak with passion - and that's rare to find on a DVD featurette.
Production Featurette
"A story that begins as a game and ends as a season" gushes the voiceover as we begin a three-minute featurette that feels like hours.
