Blue and Pink pots made by Angela and Chris as part of the BBC Big Skill Campaign

Blue and Pink Pots made at Hazle Ceramic

The Big Skill

BBC Essex presenters have been learning new skills and now, you can try your hand at something different on Thursday, 11, June. It's part of the Big Skill awards which celebrate people who've changed their life through learning.

Earlier this year BBC Essex presenters, Chris Penhall and Angela Lodge, decided to try a new skill. They went along to Hazle's Pottery Barn at Barleylands in Billericay to make a pot.

BBC Essex Helpline Coordinator, Angela Lodge, says she really enjoyed the experience: " It's many years since either of us had used a potter's wheel, but with the help of Iona, one of the talented potters at the Barn we managed to make a pot each and we both felt a great sense of achievement."

On Thursday, 11, June, there's a chance for anyone to try a new skill as part of the Big Skill, organised by the Learning and Skills Council.

BBC Sports Presenter, Ray Stubbs, will be in Chelmsford town centre along with stalls and demonstrations showcasing everything from Chinese cookery, health and beauty and computer skills to keepy-uppy football!

The demonstrations start at 12pm and the event culminates in an awards ceremony with Ray Stubbs handing our trophies to recognise people in Essex who've improved their life, or the lives of others, through learning.

Ray Stubbs says he's looking forward to the event: "It'll be great to be back in Chelmsford and meet the finalists .... there are some really inspiring stories ... and their achievements really deserve to be recognised."

BBC Essex Presenter, Dave Monk, will be at the awards ceremony and radio host, Sadie Nine, will be at the demonstrations in the afternoon.

Dave, who's on air every weekday from 9am to 12pm, learnt to dance last year, as part of Children in Need, and he was invited to be a Judge as part of the Big Skills awards this year.
