Charity concert for homeless

A music concert is set to raise funds and awareness for Poole-based homeless charity Routes to Roots. The organisation runs a soup kitchen two days a week and, with the help of the concert, wants to extend the service to run seven days a week.

A music concert in support of Poole homeless charity Routes To Roots hopes to help it reach a new target.

The charity currently offers a soup kitchen twice a week, but is aiming to extend this to service to seven days a week.

And with the help of sponsorship and profile-raising achieved from this concert, that target could well be in sight.

The concert will see performances from three local Dorset bands. Topping the bill are alternative/rock group Oposium, who'll be working the in-situ church organ into their set, plus additional vocal back up from the church choir of St. Peter's church, Parkstone.

'A real chance to make a difference'

Other acts lined up are indie/rock act The Repercussion from Dorchester and Hello Young Man, the Corfe Mullen Family Church youth band.

One of the concert's organisers, Richard McLester from Oposium, explains: "Over the past couple of months we've been feverishly raising sponsorship for the event from local businesses and building up to what should be a spectacular evening of entertainment for all of the local community.

"For us, this is a real chance to make a difference to the lives of the people that the charity supports and helps."

More information on the concert can be found on page on the band's website:

Saturday 29 December 2007 at 7pm, at St Peter's Church, Ashley Cross in Parkstone.
